Pre-assessment - Starting point
Every journey must have a starting point. In an assessment toolkit it is necessary to find out where our students are standing before we take them on their journey of learning. In part, pre-assessment helps the teacher chart the progress of the student. But more importantly, it will help students understand where they began and chart their own growth during their learning experience. Pre-assessment can be quick and immediate or more thoughtful and reflective. It can also assess individual understanding or whole class. The following tools will help to present a balanced approach to assessing where the starting point is for my students.
1. Class discussion
2. Anticipatory guide
3. Game based assessment - Jeopardy
4. Poll survey
5. Whip around
6. Admit slip
