Purpose: This is an assessment that provides formal structured evaluation based on agreed upon outcomes and performance values.
Rationale: It is necessary to have the end site when planning. In this assessment tool it is important to incorporate learning outcomes from curriculum documents while also having students participate in the performance values. By having your students participate in the construction of the rubric they will know understand what is expected upfront, before the project begins. Rubric helps to guide students and direct their focus to aspects of their learning. For teachers it is a measurable piece of assessment to help evaluate the overall learning experience of students.
21CLD connection: Rubric are effective tools in which to assist students in their knowledge construction and the way they want to communicate that knowledge. Developing a rubric with my students will empower them within the assessment process and provide them with a clear understanding of expectations. In turn, it will assist in their own goals and how to achieve them.
