Assessment tool: Exit slips
Type: formative, summative
Grouping: individual
Purpose: This tool is an easy and simple way to either determine understanding or to assess the instructional session as a whole.
Rationale: Exit slips are quick and easy way to get immediate feedback from students on what they learnt or what they struggled with in class. They can be designed for an end of the day activity or end of the unit. They can take a formal aspect or an informal method.
21CLD connection: Tweeting an exit slip is something I have read about. It helps force students articulate in 140 characters what they learnt, struggled with or didn't like. Exit slips aren't meant to be long but short and summative.
Example:
These are different examples of exit slips that can be used in classroom setting.
